You’ve got your marshmallow colored glasses on. (You can read more about that here.) Good for you!
The big reason you’re going to school right now is to prepare for your future. That’s why people pay for the schools you go to. It’s why your parents ship you off to them. And… it’s good to keep that in mind for yourself too.
When you understand that school is about preparing for your future, you get a head start in everything you do. You get to make the decisions that most students take for granted.
When you have an assignment to do, you get to ask, “how does this prepare you for your future?” Does it improve your grade considerably so you get into a better college? Does it teach you something important? Does it help you survive the class so you can get your degree and move on? Or… is it really a waste of your time and energy? (There are plenty of assignments like that.)
Going to college is a big deal. It can drastically change your future prospects. But… it’s not a decision that should be taken lightly. It can feel almost automatic that college is your next step but the more automatic it is, the less of an advantage you should expect it to be.
A big portion of your success in life comes down to accepting responsibility for the important decisions in your life. There is no easy path to awesome success. There isn’t even an easy path to mild success. The best way you can take responsibility for your future is to realizing:
A person that never stops educating themselves also never stops improving their position in life.
Your future will be impacted by your decision to constantly push yourself better (and not necessarily harder:)
